Clothes

Under the powerful influence of the church in the Middle Ages, man creates a new image for himself - the image of an ascetic man who renounced all the pleasures and pleasures of earthly life, and these characteristic features as nowhere appear in the style of clothing. Consider the kind of clothes worn by men and women in a gloomy, but in their own romantic era of the Middle Ages...

 Early Middle Ages Clothes

The period between antiquity and the Renaissance, occupying a period of V-XIII centuries, historians called the early Middle Ages, characterized by the enormous importance of religion in all spheres of human life. This could not help but touch on the style of clothing - the fashion of the Middle Ages had such distinctive features as long heavy fabrics for women, hiding the whole body, and married women even hid their hair under a handkerchief.

Men's clothing of the early Middle Ages is nothing more than a knight's armor, a broad cloak over an impenetrable vestment, and, of course, a helmet. After a while, the helmet was adorned with a tissue roller, known as the "burlet", also appeared masks popular on modern carnival. It was at this time that such an ideal as the "coat of arms" became established, an ideal outfit for a knight.

Medieval clothing of the late period

Later, the Middle Ages (XIII - XV centuries) can be characterized by the appearance of many elements of clothing for men's suits - so, in fashion included pants of various lengths, called "bre", short tunic shirts, leather shoes such as posters or shoes.

The clothes of the medieval ladies are distinguished by a broader cut of the dress, a pronounced waist and a lush skirt, there are many different kinds of ornaments that make the dresses very bulky and heavy. It should also be noted that, despite the external luxury, such dresses were made from heavy and very coarse fabrics.

In Medieval Russia, the above-described clothes were worn only by representatives of a noble society - raincoats and trousers of different cuts for men and wide rich dresses for women.
In the people of the same traditional men's clothing in Medieval Russia was considered a well-known linen shirt and pants, called tailors, sewn from a rough cloth.

As for clothes for women in Medieval Russia, their fashion also did not indulge in great variety. Women dressed in long simple straight cuts, not distinguished by beauty and high quality fabrics, and underneath dressed white linen shirt.

One of the oldest elements of women's clothing in the Middle Ages in Russia became poneva - waist clothing for married, dressed over the shirt.
